ENGIE PowerCorner exists to unlock the economic potential of rural communities across Africa.
Our vision is that clean, reliable, affordable and productive energy is the 1st enabler of economic welfare and social improvement.
Our mission is rural electrification through smart mini-grids powered by digital solutions like mobile money and pay-as-you-go technologies.
At ENGIE PowerCorner, our primary focus is to support income generating activities thereby sustainably improving the living conditions of customers and generating economic welfare in the short and longer term.
How it worksMeet our users
Additional services linked to electricity can be provided in the villages, such as electrical mobility or drinkable water treatment.
Efficient appliances on lease-to-own
Energy-efficient appliances and machines are distributed to the customers and financing is provided though lease-to-own mechanism: from low-energy light bulbs and TV to mills, welding machines and water pumps!
Distribution network and connected smart meters
Electricity is distributed in the village with AC voltage, mono or triphasic. All customers are connected to the grid through smart meters, and receive the same service as their relatives based in the capital cities.
The micro-utility platform (MUP) allows for mobile money payment, remote monitoring of activity and digital backbones.
Generation and storage unit
Solar PV panels, power electronics and batteries are installed in a containerized unit, which generates electricity 24/7. The generation unit is sized to satisfy 99.9% of the demand.
Smart meters allow customers to prepay their electricity bills, and to top up their account whenever they want with the amount they choose.
Benedikt Lenders, Managing Director of ENGIE PowerCorner
I really want to engage and put all my energy into a position in which value creation for the customer goes hand-in-hand with value creation for ENGIE, and with a very visible and significant societal impact. ENGIE PowerCorner does exactly that!
